Who?

Nice to meet you. My name is Claire.

I won’t spend much time on myself — that’s not why you’re here. In the shortest of words, I’m inspired by music.

To quickly elaborate, I am:
- A Kansas native attending school on the outskirts of New York City
- Pursuing a degree in Broadcasting & Multimedia with a minor in Journalism
- A DJ and Newscaster for 89.5 FM WSOU

Use The Volume is, in essence, practice. My dream is to join the world of professional music journalism after graduation, but who says that dream can’t begin now? As suggested by a very close friend, I’m “using the volume” to get my feet wet.

Music makes me feel alive; I’d like to start living now.

Turn it up,
Claire

Hi Claire, I just wanted to say hello, since I will not be seeing on Facebook for a few months, I fully intend to keep in touch via WordPress.

Also, so far so good. This is kind ingenious. I am NOT a music junkie. In fact, I might be the only person I know who is not driven by music. Everyone I have ever been close to has been way into music. And I don’t mean, ‘Yeah I listen to the cool stuff’, I mean plays six instruments (from different families nonetheless!), sang in all-city choir, has released an album, or (like Alex) completely judges others on their musical tastes. And I? I can move knobs on a board and make shit sound good but that’s about it.
That said, occasionally I do get struck by a need for music. When I need to clean something, or dance on my porch, or feel connected with something larger than myself sometimes the best outlet is music. So I have a feeling that I will be reading this quite regularly, not just because I like you, but because I think that this is genuinely a good idea and it will be extremely helpful to those of who know WHY we want to listen without knowing what it is we should be listening to.
